Home Assistant new thermostat card customization
In the 2023.12 release of Home Assistant, a new thermostat card was introduced with a new look and feel. Overall, I really liked the new design. However with the new release, it altered my personal workflow by not including the thermostat mode controls directly on the card. While attempting to change the HVAC mode, I found my fat fingers would accidentally adjust the temperature in an unexpected manner. Prior to upgrading to 2023.12, the card would include HVAC mode controls which were easy to access. As most things are in Home Assistant, I discovered the card could be altered to include HVAC controls.
Post upgrade, the thermostat card presented itself looking like this.
To add the HVAC mode controls, first edit the dashboard in question. Once in the thermostat card configuration, add Climate HVAC modes in the features section.
Once the feature is added, the thermostat card will now have HVAC mode controls which are easily accessible.
