My first look at the Beelink SER6 7735HS

I was recently in the market for a new desktop. For the past 5+ years, I have been using my Dell XPS developer edition as my main desktop. As much as I love my XPS laptop, it had become a burden to dock and undock from my office setup. After giving it some thought, I wanted a small desktop that I could use as a home base and continue to use my XPS laptop when not at home. While researching, I came across the Beelink SER6 7735HS. This little device had most everything I needed and as a bonus it supported USB4. I was notified of a price drop (Thanks CamelCamelCamel ) and the purchase was completed.

As expected, the device shipped with Windows 11.šŸ¤® I did boot the device into Windows to validate the hardware was working as intended. Quick tangent, WOW the windows 11 onboarding is exhausting. Once the hardware was validated, I backed up the Widows 11 image and proceeded to install Ubuntu Mate 22.04. Ubuntu Mate 22.04 installed without issue. In order to increase storage, I installed a 1TB ssd. The process to install the ssd was easy with only the removable of four screws required. I did encounter an issue with connecting a monitor via display port. After researching the forums, I believe it is due to my display port cable being version 1.2 when version 1.4 is required. I will have to follow-up on this issue when I have the correct cable. For now, I have a thunderbolt dock plugged in and the display port cable attached to it.

I expect to continue to follow-up on this device in the future. I will be testing my eGPU attached to the device. For now, I was able to play Hades without issue via Proton using the integrated GPU. Happy Times!
