3D Printing beginings
At the end of 2021, I drove head first into the world of 3D printing. For a period of six months, I researched 3D printers extensively. The good news is there are a large number of options available through multiple sources. Ultimately, I ended up purchasing a Prusa i3-MK3.
Why Prusa?
There were three main considerations I utilized to arrive at my final decision. I found price for 3D printers can vary widely. There are relatively cheap printers available from unknown manufactures through websites such as Alibaba. There are medium priced printers from known manufactures. Then there are more higher end printers from well known manufactures such as Prusa. In this case, I felt the reputation of the company was worth the gamble for the price. I wanted to purchase my printer from a manufacture with a well established community. As a beginner, I wanted to have a place to go to review newbie questions or ask my own questions. In the months post my purchase, the Prusa team released Printables.com which is an awesome resource for 3D printing. As with most purchases, I wanted to purchase a product that had a good reputation My goal was to get to 3D printing as quickly as possible. I didn’t want to spend months tuning and fixing issues. Prusa had a reputation for allowing people to get printing with minimal issues.
How did it all turn out?
I have been very happy with my Prusa printer. During the assembly process, I did experience two issues which required assistance from Prusa due to defects in the supplied parts. They were excellent to work with during the whole process and supplied the necessary fixes. Once assembly was completed, I was able to get printing with minimal issues. Both the supplied documentation and community support really assisted in a quick start process. Since then, I have been printing with minimal issues. I will be showcasing some of my builds in upcoming posts.
Happy 3D Printing!!
